Whangaparaoa GC - 18 Hole Women Golf Tournaments 2026

 

WGC women’s competitions are defined as either Open or Closed Competitions.  All Saturday and Tuesday Scrambles are open. These, however, may be played in conjunction with a closed tournament. 

For Open Competitions, a player may play with and have their card marked by any NZ golf affiliated member.

For Closed Competitions, players must play with and have their card marked by another player, playing in the same competition.

Additional guidelines for the competitions.

If the number of entries for any competition is below the number specified , the competition will not be played. Should bad weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent play in a competition the following will apply:

  • Single round competition – this will be rescheduled if possible but if not, the trophy will not be awarded.
  • Multiple Round competitions- if the competition has already started but is not possible to complete the required rounds or reschedule the outstandings ones, the trophy will be awarded on the round(s) that have been completed.
  • If the competition has not started, then the trophy will be awarded based on the remaining rounds. If one cannot be completed, the trophy will not be awarded.

A reserve day may be scheduled for the Stroke Play Championships. For competitions played on Tuesday and Saturday, players may choose the day they play, but if they enter on both days, the first score will count.

 

Tournaments – Descriptions and Guidelines

New Zealand sanctioned Golf Tournaments in Conjunction with Harbour Golf

LGU (Ladies Golf Union) Medal Competitions - (Closed) Medal (Gross/Nett) round that may be held in conjunction with other club competitions. This is played 6 times a year and the best four (4) out of six (6) rounds count. There are two divisions – Silver <18.4 index; Bronze 18.5 – 40.4) index. Medals for both divisions are awarded by NZ Golf. These rounds are played on adjacent Tuesdays & Saturdays. Players may choose the day they play but if entered on both days, the first score will count. The winners of the LGU medal for silver and  bronze divisions will be the player with the lowest aggregate, as described in the NZ Golf Manual, of the four (4) nett differentials returned.

 

The following are played between specific dates set by NZ golf

These tournaments are played between Opening Day and the 15th April

Aotearoa Cup – Closed

This is an 18-hole nett competition for both Silver and Bronze divisions. It is a national competition where the best score is recorded for the club and compared to the Best score from the other Harbour Clubs. The winner’s score is then compared to the best score from the NZ district winners. Prizes are awarded by North Golf and NZ Golf to the winners. These are usually presented at the Champion of Champions tournament at the end of the year. Played between Opening Day and the 15th April.

Minimum # Players 3

Players may only play in the competition once

Coronation Medal – Closed   Silver Players only

Same format as for Aotearoa Cup – restricted to Silver Players only.

Best Gross Cup – closed

Same format as the Aotearoa Cup, etc. Open to both Silver and Bronze. Gross Score only.

Veterans Trophy 70+  

70 or over on the date of the competition. Played in conjunction with the Aotearoa Cup and Coronation Medal. The same format applies.

Junior Girls 18 Hole Home Links - Closed

Open to all full playing members (18hole members) of the club under the age of 19. This is played between the Club Opening Day and the 31st May. Same rules apply as to the Aotearoa Cup. Best Gross and Best Nett. Recommended they are played in conjunction with the LGU tournaments. Minimum # players 3

National Teams Day – Closed    

Minimum # Players – 6. Played at the club between Opening Day and the 15th April $3 entry fee payable to North Harbour. This may be played in conjunction with a Club Nett Tournament.

4 players returning the lowest individual net score qualify to represent the club at the district 18-hole Nett 4Ball Regional final to be held at a Harbour Club between the 20th April and the 31st May. The winning team results are then forward to NZ Golf and the winners of the districts best par +/- result will be awarded the national trophy.

 

Nancy MacCormick Memorial Foursomes – Closed

Minimum # players 2 pairs

Same guidelines as the Aotearoa Cup

Foursomes handicap stroke play, played over 36 holes in either one or two days within a 4 week period.

Players choose their own partners and pairs are drawn at random to play together. Tee off order changes between the 2 rounds ie. A of 1 1st round B of 1 2nd round. Total gross score minus the handicap for 36 holes.

Hdcp allowance 50% of pairings combined playing handicap. The results are sent to Harbour Golf and then to NZ Golf.

Whangaparaoa GC in conjunction with Harbour Golf

The following tournament criteria is governed by the winners representing the club at Harbour Golf Tournaments.

Stroke Play – Closed

Minimum # players 2 in each division of Silver, Bronze and Veterans

2 Divisions Silver 0-18.4 index, Bronze 18.5 – 40.4 index. Played in October/November over 36 holes on either 2 consecutive weekend days or 2 consecutive Saturdays. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden death playoff – starting on hole #1. All other places to be decided on countback. If a round is abandoned, the one round will determine the winner. A Minimum of 2 entries per division required. Handicaps will be used for the Nett winners. Order of play by handicap.

The Silver Gross winner will be awarded the Champions Trophy; the Silver Nett Winner will be awarded the Passmore Cup.

The Bronze Gross winner will be awarded the Bronze Champions Cup, the Bronze Nett Winner will be awarded the Bowen Cup.

Veterans Winner.  Played in conjunction with the Silver and Bronze Championship. Age 60yrs or over at the time of the competition. This is separate to the WGC veteran’s trophy as the winner of this will represent the Club at the Champ of Champs for North Harbour. (see Criteria for the Rose Bowl) Two rounds of Stroke play and the winner will receive the Joy  Ellis Cup

The Silver, Bronze, Veterans and 9 Hole  Gross winners will represent the club at the Harbour Champion of Champions tournament held normally at the end of November. Silver winners play 36 holes; all others play 18 holes. No substitutes are allowed.

Harbour Rose Bowl. The Silver, Bronze, Veteran and 9-hole gross winners will also represent the club in the Harbour Rose Bowl tournament held in conjunction with the Champion of Champions event; however, if the Veteran winner is also the Bronze Champion, the Veteran RU will represent the club in the Rose Bowl tournament.  The RU in each competition may represent the club in the Rose Bowl Competition if the Champion is unable to play.

Club Trophy Events – No entry $ required

Open Matchplay Trophy – Closed

Normally to be played in Apr- May. This is a handicap tournament. No qualifier is needed if <16 players entered and the draw will be seeded by lot. A play-by- date will be set for each round.  If players cannot agree on a play date, then the play- by-day must be used. If more than 16 players enter, a qualifier will be set the week prior and the seedings will be based on the qualifier. Match play giving handicap. If a decision is not made after 18 holes the play will continue with shots at the appropriate holes.

Match Play Championship – Closed

This is in divisions of Silver 0-18.4 index and Bronze 18.5+. No handicap is used. If a qualifier is not required (less than 16 players in each division) then the draw will be by handicap index. Minimum of 3 players per division. A play by date will be set for each round.  If players cannot agree on a play date, then the play by date must be used. This will be played, preferably in October. The winner(s) may be substituted for the Harbour Championships if the Stroke play champion(s) is unable to play.

Summer CupOpen   Stableford using full handicap, played in the Summer between Closing and Opening Day. Best total of 4 rounds Stableford.

Winter Stableford Open

Best two (2) Stableford rounds played in the months of July and August. In the event of a tie a countback on the best card is made.

Thompson Rose Bowl and Morgan Putting Cup – Open

Played together – 2 Rounds of Nett play over 2 consecutive weeks – Saturday or Tuesday. Players can only enter one per week per the general rules. All putts will be counted and the winners will receive the Thompson Rose Bowl for the best Nett total score and the Morgan Putting Cup for the lowest number of total putts over 2 rounds.

Gwen Bickerstaff Memorial Trophy - Open

Two rounds of Stableford – total score. Ties decided on countback on the 2nd round.

Veterans Trophy 50+ - Open

18 holes best Nett

Eclectic – Open

Run over the year from Opening to Closing Day. The best gross score per hole is recorded, and the winner(s) are the best overall Gross and Nett Score. The Gross winner will be awarded the Rene Stoodley Memorial Trophy, and the Best Nett will receive the Elliot Trophy.

Daily Haggle – Open

Open to all players for a $ determined by the members. (presently $4)  Minimum  of 3 players. (total $5 at present)

2s $1 per round. No minimum. If not won on the day the money will be paid back into the haggle money.

Payout dependent on # players determined by the pro shop.
