CLUB COMPETITIONS:

 

WEEKEND SCRAMBLE

Most Saturdays run in conjunction with club competitions. Divisions available for men and women.

 

BUSINESS HOUSE & TWILIGHT

9 hole competition played over the summer months. Get a business house team or a group of friends. All welcome.

 

THURSDAY MENS HAGGLE

Members and visitors welcome names recorded up to 9.00am (9 hole). Names recorded up to 10.30am (18 hole).

 

TUESDAY MENS HAGGLE

Members and visitors welcome names recorded up to 8.30am (9 hole). Names recorded up to 10.00am (18 hole).

 

WHANGAPARAOA GOLF CLUB OPEN

Competition played over either 9 or 18 holes. Divisions for both men and women.

 

EASTER RABBIT RUN

Format decided by the Match Committee. Open competition.

 

CHARITY DAY

Course and facilities are made available for chosen charity. Format decided by Match Committee. Everyone welcome.

 

JACK CAUNDLE MEMORIAL OPENING DAY

The format is decided by the Club Captain. Shotgun start. Open to all financial members who hold a current handicap.

 

EAGLES DAY

Invitation event hosted by the Eagles Golfing Society. Stableford competition.

 

PATRON TROPHY

Prizes donated by George Turnbull, Patron. Stableford competition open to all financial members who hold a current handicap.

 

ANDREW CUP

Trophy donated by Keith Andrew and family. Open to all financial members who hold a current handicap. After event, scores are put into a hat and partner is drawn. Best combined wins.

 

CLOSING DAY

Ambrose event with Shotgun start. Open to all financial members who hold a current handicap.

 

CHRISTMAS SCRAMBLE DAY

Format decided by Match Committee. Divisions for men and women.  Open competition.

 

WILSON TROPHIES

Mixed Canadian Foursomes Competition. Best 3 out of 4 rounds. Open to all financial members who hold a current handicap.

 RSA RUM CHALLENGE

Competition held between Whangaparaoa Golf Club, Silverdale RSA and East Coast Bays RSA.

 

MEN’S 18-HOLE COMPETITIONS:

 

BOWEN CUP

8 rounds of Stableford on set days, with your best 6 cards out of 8 rounds scoring. Highest aggregate points wins

 

BLUE TEE CUP 

Net medal, best 5 of 7 rounds spread through the year running from opeing to closing day.

 

EMMERSON CUP (Not played in 2024)

Pairs competition where the Best Combined Stableford points wins. You can choose a partner with who you play with or playing in another group. You do not necessarily have to be in the same group. The cards will be combined at the end of play

Best 3 of 5 Stableford rounds on set days

 

JOHN BELLERBY TROPHY - Not Played in 2023 & 2024

Stableford, 2 rounds best total 

 

LEN STOODLEY TROPHY - Not Played in 2023 & 2024

Stableford, best total over 2 rounds,

 

CAPTAINS GOLD & SILVER CUP -  Not played in 2024

This is a net competition played as a teams of 2 playing, foursomes over 18 holes on one day. The winning team received the  Gold Cup, the runners-up receive the Silver Cup.  Entry is open to full financial members with a current Hcp.  This is an open competition.

 

PRESIDENTS GOLD & SILVER TROPHY

A qualifying round to find the Top 16 players from both 1st and 2nd divisions, going into a Matchplay knockout. This is Handicap Matchplay. Div 1 winner awarded the Presidents Gold, and Div 2 winner awarded the Presidents Silver.

Finalists will each qualify for the Champion of Champions Challenge Cup.

 

LEN DAY CUP

A best Net competition over 1 round

 

4 BALL BEST BALL

This is a pair Matchplay competition with handicap.16 teams of 2 go head to head in knockout. Lowest handicap player is scratch, with other players taking strokes off that. Best stroke wins the hole for that pair.

 

HIBISCUS TROPHY

A best combined net competition over 2 rounds, which is played over 2 consecutive Saturdays.

 

ELLIOT MEMORIAL CUP

A best combined Stableford competition over 2 rounds, which is played over 2 consecutive Saturdays.

 

SEPTEMBER CUP

A Best Combined Net Competition over 2 rounds, which is played over 2 consecutive Saturdays.

 

STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

This is the Club Champs. This is the Masters of Club Competition.

Players are graded by handicap in to 5 grades. Senior, Intermediate, and Junior play 18 holes, and C grade, and D grade play 36 holes over 2 days. There is no Handicap, it is all Gross play. The best lowest Gross in each grade is Champion. Winners and Runners Up in each grade qualify for the Champion of Champions Challenge Cup.

 

MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The top 16 players from the Qualifiers (2 rounds of Strokeplay Champs) in each Grade are seeded in to a Matchplay draw. No handicap allowance, this is purely scratch golf.

 

Winners and Runners up in each grade qualify for the Champion of Champions Challenge Cup.

 

DIVOT DIGGERS

A best Net competition over 1 round

 

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS CHALLENGE CUP

This is a 18 hole best Net competition. All winners and runners up from the 3 qualifying competitions, play off for the title of Champion of Champions.

 

MENS NINE HOLE TROPHY COMPETITIONS

CHARLIE FAHY

Best average stableford scores over the season. (Tues & Thurs.) Played between opening day to closing Day.

ECLECTIC

Best score per hole over the season. (Tues & Thurs.) Played between opening day to closing Day.

 TOP CATS

Match play between two pairs, awarded to the individual player who records the highest number of wins over the season, both challenges and defenses winners count, (Thursdays Only). Played between opening day to closing Day. 

RUSSELL SMITH

Best total nett over three rounds. (Thursdays)

SUMMER CUP

Best nett over three rounds. Played between closing and opening day.

 JACK MORRISON

Best nett over three rounds during May.  (Thursdays)

JIM LEVER

Least number of putts over two rounds during August. (Thursdays).  

 CAUNDEL

Age 70s Under 80s: Best 2 rounds out of 3 rounds stableford during September.

 MOORE

Over 80: Best 2 rounds out of 3 rounds stableford during September.

 SHEARER

Three clubs over two rounds stableford during October. (Thursdays)

 GARY GILL

Players are drawn aftr the competition into pairs and stablefords are combined (Thursday).

RICHARD BRUCE MEMORIAL - SHOOT YOUR AGE

The lowest gross score relative to your age, taken over 18 holes between opening day and closing day. Age as on M9 closing day.

Example Age 80, best net 72, 8 below.

SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR

Applies all year.

EDDY MASTERS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT

Applies all year.

All the above will be dependent on weather conditions & a minimum number of 12 participants.

Final decision to be made by the Convenor (Convenor or Deputy) on the day.

During these competitions, rules of golf will apply (Nine Hole Golf).
